mcdonalds uses natural beef flavor and dairy in their fries and hash browns. their new fruit smoothie has animal hooves, skin, and bones (gelatin) in it. their apple pies have duck feathers (animal derived l-cysteine) in it. mcdonalds used to lie and say that their fries were made with 100% vegetable oil. vegetarians kept asking them about the natural flavor in their fries, and a customer service representative had a slip of the tongue and revealed it in fact came from beef. mcdonalds even sold these fries to hindus in india and tens millions of vegetarians all across the world. they did get sued however, and they ended up having to give millions of dollars in a settlement. burger king’s fries are vegan. and burger king has a bk veggie burger that does contain eggs and dairy but is cooked separately from the meat products. it’s hard to avoid animal products 100%, because most companies put hidden animal ingredients in some or most of their products.

here are some more non-vegetarian products you may have not known about…

tropicana orange strawberry banana juice & tropicana grapefruit juice have crushed cochineal beetles in them. tropicana plus calcium has lamb’s wool secretions in them. all dole juices are 100% vegan/vegetarian. kraft cheese contains calf and goat enzymes; the animals are killed in the process and then used for veal and goat meat. horizon cheese and organic valley cheese is vegetarian. they sell these at most organic foods stores across the country. boar’s head also has vegetarian cheddar and swiss cheeses. frosted poptarts have gelatin in them. twinkies include beef fat.

I need to stop finding awesome interior design / space / garden blogs

I’m such a space geek! Makes me want to take to the earth with a pick axe [which I have done before] and make something beautiful.

I do have to agree with you. The US is still dealing with our issues in the Middle East and I think it would only anger people more if the US tried to get involved in Egypt. I read an article that included the demands of the people in Egypt and it's very reasonable demands. I too hope they succeed, and it's encouraging to know that there are people willing to do what they can for their greater good.

That kind of goes for any other country who would want to step in … they usually do it in the form of aid as to not pose a militaristic threat and endanger their own nation. It’s a difficult position.

Yeah, I heard about them cutting internet access the other day but I didn't really start to hear anything major until today. And I actually just got done telling my mom about what's going on and seemed interested and said "Well the US is probably going to step in and play big brother." I found this interesting seeing as tear gas cans that have been made here in the US are being used against the protesters in Egypt. It is rather dissapointing that people aren't showing much interest in our fellow humans. They wont care until it affects the US personally, in my opinion.

I dont think the US will step in; it makes its money off of turmoil; it’s not uncommon that we step in to help quell protesters who are trying to overthrow fascist governments (in South America, mainly). I think it’s best if the battle stays concentrated. The people need to overthrow this regime; their passion and ingenuity need to win this, so that it’s a success that is totally theirs. Usually when someone else steps in, the original wishes of the minority are lost. I sure hope they are successful, though. We need some revolutions up in here.

Thanks for helping to spread information on the protests in Egypt. You seem to be the only one on my dash who is showing any interest in the situation over there, but it's still nice to know others have an interest in our fellow countries.

Aww! You’re welcome. I was a bit embarrassed that I didnt know the whole story by the time it started getting heavy, so I did my research. The old ways have to change for us to inherit the future, you know? It’s sad that more people arent interested in something that effects them, however indirectly.

Rock on.
